Like "Fine Breeze, Clear Sky," this work has Mt. Fuji itself as its subject. "White Rain" refers to heavy summer rain showers , but by painting this work from a perspective looking down from the sky, as the title suggests, it depicts a clear sky above Mt. Fuji, and thunder and heavy rain below, a spectacular view that can only be seen from an airplane.
Once again, the carver and printer have done an excellent job in responding to Hokusai's bold imagery. If you look closely, you will see that the black clouds on the middle slope are drawn only with horizontal markings, and below them , torrential rain is drawn only with dynamic vertical markings. Meanwhile, the cumulonimbus clouds in the sky are instantly recognizable, but they are drawn three-dimensionally with delicate sky markings . As the saying goes, " At 100 years old, he is truly awe-inspiring , " this is a work that could not have been created without aiming for a divine perspective.
