Among the Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji, only two paintings, Fine Wind, Clear Weather and Rain Below the Mountain, are based purely on the image of Mount Fuji itself, and both of these works were later recognized as being among the " Big Three."

A fair wind is a gentle breeze that blows from summer to autumn. On a clear morning, Fuji towers over half of the picture, with a background of sardine clouds. On clear, sunny mornings from late summer to early autumn, the rare phenomenon of Fuji appearing dyed red due to atmospheric conditions has been featured since the late Edo period as "Red Fuji." However , the skillful carving and printing of this work give it a presence that is completely different from the "fair wind, clear weather" that we usually imagine.

The light appears to circle around the brighter gradation at the base of the mountain . The carver 's skill , making use of the width of the wood's annual rings, can be seen in the depiction of Mount Fuji's rock face. The material of the washi paper itself is likened to clouds, creating unevenness that makes the herring clouds appear to be floating. Only the sky above the peak of Mount Fuji is printed vertically, making it look as if rays of light are piercing Mount Fuji through the clouds. This is exactly why ukiyo-e is said to be the art of the three elements.
